Uche Mowete
A Bay Area native born in Berkeley, Uche has spent nearly 19 years honing his martial arts skills. His journey began with traditional arts, starting with Taekwondo in his teens, before exploring Shotokan Karate and Wushu. After high school, he studied English at San Francisco State University and, in his late 20s, moved to Western Australia, where he discovered kickboxing and became a dedicated kickboxing instructor here at Island City Jiu-Jitsu.
Uche holds impressive ranks: Ni Dan in Dazan Ryu Jujutsu, Yoshinkai Aikido, and Shodan in Toyama Ryu Battodo, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to our team.
When he’s not on the mats, Uche is fueled by wanderlust, traveling whenever he can. A passionate writer and poet, he has performed at open mics and competitions, blending his love for words with his martial arts journey.
